Last week I attended the Destinations: Travel and Adventure Show in London. It was my second year and once again, I went in search of inspiration, new companies, ideas, and destinations that piqued my interest.
So, this week, I thought I’d share a few of the places, people and things that caught my eye, along with links so you can learn more.
PLEASE NOTE: All of these remain undiscovered by me, so I am not able to recommend or vouch for them. Please make sure to do your own due diligence before booking. In addition, I do not earn any money from the links, I’m just sharing them as I thought you might be interested!
Solo Travellers
- Solos. This is one I really can’t believe I have never heard of before! They have been organising group trips for solo travellers for over 40 years. Their offerings include worldwide destinations for sun, ski, hiking trips, city breaks or just holidays around the UK. If you like to meet up and share the experience with like-minded souls, then check them out.
- If it’s your first time travelling alone then I have heaps of inspiration and guidance for you over on my blog, check out THIS LINK for starters.
Activity and Adventure Travel
- Venture Sail. I love sailing, am keen to do more and believe it’s an excellent activity to learn while travelling alone. Over a quick chat, I discovered that with Venture Sail, among their main clientele are solo travellers over 40 (mainly women). You can choose from worldwide sailing destinations and from large clipper boats to much smaller vessels, all catering for the needs of individual travellers. If you would like to read more about my (mis) adventures learning to sail, then check out my blog post HERE.
- Inn Travel. I spotted these guys last year and went back for more, mainly to discuss their offerings for the Camino de Santiago this year. They offer self-guided walking and cycling tours around Europe, organising accommodation, route maps and transporting your luggage between stays. If you’ve been here a while, you will know that I love a multi-day hike, although do have a propensity for getting lost! This sounds like a great option to have someone looking out for you and making the whole trip less stressful. To learn more about my escapades on the Quilotoa Loop, where I met my Guardian Angel, check out THIS LINK.
- Great Road Journeys. If you’re feeling particularly adventurous, then these guys offer self-drive jeep journeys through Vietnam, Peru, Namibia, South India and the Himalayas. There is no convoy driving but the route is well planned for you and accommodation booked. There are around 10-15 vehicles in every tour so plenty of people to discuss the triumphs and challenges of the day with.
Destinations
- Antarctica. The final continent for me which remains unexplored. A trip to Antarctica is a huge undertaking in terms of both research and money. I spoke to several providers who offered trips for eye-watering sums. I liked the look of Polar Routes who bring a number of tour companies together, to enable you to decide what you want from the trip and which organisation will be able to deliver it best. However, when I do eventually decide to take the (polar) plunge, I still like the look of my tried and trusted favourite tour agency, G Adventures.
- Colombia. Things have changed a lot since Colombia was so overrun by drug cartels that to list it as a tourist destination would be insanity. But now, it is a country of beauty that is calling loudly to me. A trip to Colombia can offer an opportunity to explore Caribbean and Pacific coasts, the Andes mountains and the Amazon Rainforest. If the Amazon is on your list then, check out my guide to visiting in Peru HERE.
So, do you have any recommendations for tour organisation or destinations that you have used or recommend for 2024? If so, I’d love to hear your thoughts. Hit reply to this email to let me know or connect via your social method of choice (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest, Threads or LinkedIn) to give me all the details.
This week, my latest video on YouTube is a true labour of love and one I have been working on for a few months now. Back in 2017, after losing my husband, I decided to write out my first Bucket List. I called it my Life List as rather than “things to do before you die” I wanted to document “things to do to bring me back to life”. For me, it provided a focus and roadmap for the following years and took me on many adventures around the world. Since then, I have become a huge advocate of having a Bucket/Life List and in my latest video, I give you everything you need to not just write it down, but also to make it happen. You can see it all for yourself HERE, just grab a pen and paper beforehand as it’s packed full of useful info and ideas!
If you need more, then click THIS LINK to get your copy of my popular and comprehensive “Travel Dreams to Reality” Workbook to help guide you through the process.
Until next time,

🏠 For accommodation, I use Booking.com. They have their Genius loyalty scheme which is easy to progress through the levels for better discounts and inclusions.
🚍 For tours and activities, my preferred supplier is Get Your Guide.
🗺️ For multi day or week tours, check out G Adventures. I used them for trips in Costa Rica, Peru, and Galapagos.
🤞 I would never leave home without travel insurance. With Safety Wing you can take out an annual policy and pay monthly. This takes the hassle out of having to remember for us regular travellers.
🛫 For cheap flights, check out Skyscanner or join Jacks Flight Club which scans the internet for error fares (UK only).
🧳 For luggage storage on your travels, I recommend the service by Bounce.
