Happy New Year!!! I hope you had a fab time and are fully dusted off and ready for everything 2024 has to throw at us!
But before I go any further, apologies for the delay. Usually, you hear from me every Monday, but after an enjoyable festive hiatus, a fab week in Tasmania and a couple of days of dodgy wifi, I couldn’t get myself together enough to get the email to you on time.
Normal Monday service will resume for the rest of the year, I promise.
So how have you been? What have you been up to? I must admit that since I last wrote and before I left for Tasmania, I had been enjoying very little. Well, enjoying everything (time with my family primarily and some fantastic opportunities to catch up with many friends who live in Australia too). But actually doing very little.
Until I got to Tasmania.
Since then, it’s been a fantastic week of precious time with my sister and doing what I believe I do best: hunting out amazing places to eat, drink, hike and generally get a feel for everything this little island (off the enormous island next door) has to offer.
And it’s a lot!
And I can’t believe I’ve never been before.
Like what, you ask?
Here’s a list of our activities for the last 6 days:
- Walk in stunning Cataract Gorge, literally 10 minutes from our hotel on the edge of Launceston (Tassie’s 2nd city)
- Wine Tour of the Tamar Valley, sampling some of the best cool climate wines to be had. This was made even more special as they all came from small producers, so none are readily available outside Tasmania. If you are a fan of white, rose or pinot noir, you are in for a treat.
- A day exploring the Tasting Trail, a route of over 40 artisan producers of top-quality fare. We chose six to sample, including salmon, truffles, honey, raspberries, ice cream and cheese.
- A hike around stunning Cradle Mountain National Park.
- A road trip along the East Coast, via a lavender farm, the famous Bay of Fires and some of the most delicious lobster I have ever tasted.
- An easy hike up to one of the most famous views in Tasmania, Wineglass Bay in Freycinet National Park.
Next is our final stop for a few days in Hobart.
Therefore, very much normal service is soon to be resumed as I have a lot to share about this amazing part of the world. I also had time to contemplate the new year and where 2024 may take me. I am excited for it to unfold as new adventures beckon in travel, business, and life. Stay tuned as I start to share it all in the coming weeks.
In keeping with my month in Australia, but a year after I did it, my first video of 2024 is a hike with my friend Vikky north of Sydney. It’s a classic tale of the best laid plans sometimes needing to pivot as we realise the trail we had prepared had been closed due to a landslide. A quick phone call, a download of updated instructions, a huge dose of overenthusiasm and slight trepidation, turned a three-hour hike into a seven-hour marathon (mainly my fault due to all my filming and photography 😉). Luckily, we had plenty of snacks and water on board. You can see the whole experience as it unfolded HERE.
So, what are you hoping for in 2024? Where is on your list and what resolutions have you made so far? I’d love to know so I can cheer you on and get inspiration for myself in the process! Hit reply to this email to let me know or connect via your social method of choice (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest, Threads or LinkedIn) to give me all the details.
Until next time,
Safe Travels
